Amber is not technically a mineral - it is a fossil.
We placed this page within our minerals section in addition to our fossils
section,
because many people do not look for it under fossils.
Amber is fossilized
tree resin. Copal is geologically younger than Baltic Amber. Copal is known
for containing excellent insect specimens. .
Baltic Amber is the oldest and considered
the finest in the world, and comes from the Baltic region. It is the typ of
amber typically set into jewelry.
